9-1-1’s Ryan Guzman on Why Eddie Is Leaving for Texas

Ryan Guzman, who plays the character Edmundo “Eddie” Diaz in the television series “9-1-1,” recently discussed in a fresh interview why Eddie is saying goodbye to Los Angeles on the show. In episode 10 of season 8, it was revealed that Eddie would be moving to Texas, and this decision led to a touching scene with his closest friend Buck (Oliver Stark), depicting their emotional farewell.

Ryan Guzman reveals real reason why Eddie is leaving in 9-1-1

In a recent interview with TheWrap, Guzman shared that Eddie is moving from Los Angeles to Texas primarily due to his desire to reconnect with his son, Christopher. He explained, “Eddie’s sole focus at the moment is repairing his relationship with his son. His intention is to step into the role of a father again, ensuring that his parents don’t overstep in this aspect.

As a gamer speaking about Eddie’s situation, I’d say when someone asked me about how things might go between Eddie and Christopher once he returns to Texas, I pointed out that there have been some positive steps forward. Nowadays, Eddie manages to make his son smile and engage in conversation more often. I called this development “progress,” and further explained that instead of being haunted by the memory of Christopher or just his deceased mother’s ghost, he will be able to focus on rebuilding their relationship when he returns. Essentially, it’s about integrating back into his son’s life, showing him that he can be the dad he vowed to be.

Significantly, it’s Shannon Diaz who is Christopher’s mom. Eddie Guzman deployed to Afghanistan initially but returned home when Christopher was born. Later on, Christopher received a diagnosis of cerebral palsy. After his mother departed and Eddie took up various jobs, Christopher resided with his grandparents on his father’s side. However, once Eddie landed a position as a first responder in Los Angeles, Christopher moved to that city with him.

A few days ago, Tim Minear (one of the creators of the series) hinted at the possibility of Eddie traveling back to Los Angeles in an interview with Decider. Yet, he also mentioned that the storyline would shift Eddie to Texas, where we’ll delve into his relationships with Christopher and other characters.
