Hazelight Studios is well-known for crafting cooperative games that are genuinely enjoyable, and they’re also building a strong reputation for making it effortless for people to play their games together. The Friend’s Pass is back for their upcoming game, Split Fiction, and this means you can purchase the game and then enjoy the experience with a friend without any additional cost for them.
This week, Electronic Arts and Hazelight Studios revealed more details about how they’ll collaborate with Split Fiction in a new trailer for the game. A feature called “Friends Pass” allows two individuals to enjoy Split Fiction without each needing to purchase the game individually. Here’s how it works: One person buys the game, and then extends the Friends Pass to another player. The recipient can download the Friends Pass app on their preferred platform (the game supports crossplay), and once they receive an invite from the original buyer of Split Fiction, they can start playing together.
As a devoted fan, I can’t help but sing the praises of Hazelight Studios for their ingenious move with It Takes Two. Unlike many games that require global players to purchase two copies for cooperative play, they cleverly introduced the Friend’s Pass option. This allowed us to share the experience by purchasing just one copy, making it a more affordable and inclusive choice for all. It was just one of the many factors that earned It Takes Two our highest accolades.
I know it might seem counterintuitive, but selling two copies instead of one wouldn’t have bothered Hazelight Studios in the slightest. In fact, they managed to sell an astounding 20 million copies of It Takes Two! Now that’s what I call a game-changing decision.
Starting soon, Split Fiction will introduce a Friend’s Play option, allowing gamers an experience similar to playing It Takes Two when it releases on March 6, 2025. Keep an eye on our Split Fiction updates for more information as we approach the game’s debut!
