7 things we learned about Ghosts season 4 at San Diego Comic-Con

As a die-hard fan of the supernatural and a longtime attendee of San Diego Comic-Con, I can confidently say that the annual appearance of Ghosts has become one of my most eagerly anticipated events. The fourth season promises to be even more enchanting, with new characters like Patience, played by Mary Holland, who seems destined to stir up a storm in the manor.

Year after year, the lively spirit of San Diego Comic-Con continues! For the third consecutive time, the popular CBS comedy series, Ghosts, has graced the convention with its presence. It was truly delightful to witness the cast and creative team return this year, leading a panel that celebrated the show and dished out tantalizing tidbits about the upcoming season 4 of Ghosts.

Commencing a jam-packed day of TV discussions in Ballroom 20, the Ghosts panel featured actors Utkarsh Ambudkar, Richie Moriarty, Roman Zaragoza, Rebecca Wisocky, executive producers Joe Port, and Joe Wiseman. As anticipated, the gathering was brimming with updates and tantalizing glimpses into the upcoming season!

7 things we learned about Ghosts season 4 at SDCC

1) Patience the ghost will be played by Mary Holland

In the upcoming season, we’ll encounter the character of Patience, a ghost portrayed by Mary Holland, quite early on. Joe Wiseman, one of our writers, likens Patience to a Puritan ghost who was expelled from her community due to being overly unconventional, even for Puritans. We’re excited for the humor that this character is expected to bring to the group. Additionally, it seems we might learn more about where Patience has been residing all this time, as actors Roman Zaragoza and Richie Moriarty hinted at their enjoyment of the new set designed specifically for Patience in Ghosts season 4.

2) Ghosts season 4 will have two holiday specials

At San Diego Comic-Con, it was revealed that the upcoming Halloween special will serve as the third episode, and by then, Patience will have encountered all the ghosts and significantly impact the house. In the spirit of the occasion, Patience will be joining in the festivities, but showrunner Joe Port hinted that Patience being a Puritan might mean she’s not overly fond of Halloween. Additionally, a Christmas episode is planned for this year, although no specifics were shared about potential new family members appearing from Jay’s side of things.

3) We’re meeting more of Jay and Sam’s families

Absolutely correct! It has been officially announced that in the fourth season of “Ghosts,” we’ll have the chance to meet Jay’s family, a development that Utkarsh Ambudkar was particularly excited about. Unfortunately, we don’t have much information on this yet, but we do know that we’ll also be introduced to Sam’s father this season, who will be portrayed by Dean Norris.

4) Pete’s still too excited about his ghost power

In the third season of the show “Ghosts”, Pete discovers that his unique ghostly ability is to depart from the premises – albeit with certain conditions. This newfound power excites him for the upcoming season, but the commentators playfully noted that the other spirits in the house might grow weary of Pete constantly discussing his travel plans, finding him excessively chatty about his whereabouts. In other words, they find Pete’s incessant talk annoying, making him “unbearable” to the other ghostly residents.

5) Jay’s restaurant WILL open this season

Previously hinted at prior to Comic-Con, Port has reaffirmed that the restaurant will indeed be featured as part of the ongoing storylines in Ghosts season 4. Whether it was a jest or not isn’t clear, but actor Utkarsh Ambudkar suggests that the opening of Jay’s restaurant could have a similar feel to a scene from The Bear.

6) Ghosts season 4 will have more episodes!

It seems that CBS hasn’t officially announced it yet, but during a recent panel, the executive producers hinted that Ghosts season 4 might consist of 22 episodes. Although we are still waiting for an official confirmation, it’s clear that this season will have more episodes than season 3, which only included 10.

7) Jay will be able to SEE the ghosts!

Among the jokes and updates provided by the panelists, a significant revelation stood out: Jay is expected to gain the ability to perceive ghosts at Woodstone Manor this season! This piece of news caught Utkarsh Ambudkar off guard, but his excitement was palpable about the exciting disclosure. While it’s unclear how long he might be able to see them, I believe this is something Ghosts enthusiasts can collectively anticipate with enthusiasm.

The beloved series “Ghosts” is back with fresh episodes this fall! It kicks off on Thursday, October 17 at 8:30 p.m. ET on CBS. Starting from the next day, you can also stream new episodes on Paramount+.
