As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I can’t help but shake my head at this latest incident involving Pokémon cards. It’s like we’ve stepped into some sort of animated crime drama!
In the dead of night, I found myself restrained in a chair, tucked away inside an Osaka trading card shop where I usually spend my gaming hours. A group of thieves had invaded our sanctuary, snatching cards and other valuables before slipping into the darkness. Quite a shocking experience for a regular gamer like myself!
Over 100 Cards Got Stolen
Around 3:30 a.m., the employees of a trading card store concluded their live broadcast from the store’s office. Just as the stream ended, two individuals wearing masks burst into the shop, brandishing sharp objects. They intimidated the two workers.
As reported by Sora News 24, the unmasked thieves were clueless about the value of the cards they targeted. Consequently, they sought advice from the store employees. In doing so, their strong Kansai dialect gave them away.
The two hostages described them as “wearing black clothes, sunglasses and masks”.
The robbers managed to pull off a very profitable heist, making away with approximately $68,000 worth of credit cards, two smartphones, and around 250,000 yen ($1750) in cash. As of September 13, neither the perpetrators nor the stolen goods have been located, remaining at large.
It appears that the world of Pokémon cards is increasingly becoming a haven for criminal activities. Just recently, a scheme involving the trading card game was uncovered as a disguise for an ongoing drug operation.
