6 best movies leaving Netflix in August 2024

As a long-time Netflix enthusiast who’s seen more movies than I care to count, I must say that August and September are proving to be quite a challenge for my binge-watching habits!

Sadly, some movies on Netflix will be departing in August 2024, with “The Edge of Seventeen” featuring Hailee Steinfeld among them.

Every month concludes with several movies moving from Netflix to another streaming platform or television network. In the case of August, I believe many viewers will be disappointed by the departure of more than a few movies.

I must say, I’ve always been a big fan of Netflix for providing a vast collection of movies that cater to every taste. However, I found myself quite intrigued by their August lineup, which includes six top-notch films set to leave the platform soon. Among them is an action flick starring Ben Affleck, who seems to be going through a particularly intense period in his life right now. As someone who has followed his career for years, I can’t help but feel a sense of empathy towards him as he navigates the ups and downs of Hollywood. His passion for acting and filmmaking is evident, and it’s always fascinating to see where his journey takes him next. So, if you’re a fan like me, make sure to catch this movie before it disappears from Netflix!

The Accountant

Leaving Netflix: Monday, Aug. 26

Among all the films on the list, you’ve got less time left to catch up with “The Accountant” starring Ben Affleck, as it will be leaving Netflix on August 26th, meaning you should definitely watch it this week!

The movie “The Accountant” narrates the tale of a professional accountant, named Christian (played by Affleck), who collaborates with illicit groups to improve their financial operations. In this story, Christian gets involved with a enigmatic firm concealing a significant secret.

If you still haven’t seen this movie, I highly recommend it! It’s a solid story with an awesome cast. Anna Kendrick, J. K. Simmons, John Lithgow, Jeffrey Tambor, and Jon Bernthal star in the film along with Affleck.

The Edge of Seventeen

Leaving Netflix: Aug. 31

Hi there! I don’t want to occupy much of your valuable time, but I wanted to let you know that “The Edge of Seventeen” is going to be removed from Netflix at the end of this month. It’s one of my favorite teen movies from the last decade and it tends to appear and disappear quite quickly on Netflix. So if you haven’t seen it yet, now might be a good time!

In the movie, Hailee Steinfeld plays Nadine, a teenager grappling with various challenges such as fitting into high school, managing personal trauma, and navigating complex relationships. A significant twist arises when Nadine discovers that her dearest friend has romantic feelings for her brother. Feeling isolated, Nadine must find her path in life.

In the movie, Woody Harrelson, Haley Lu Richardson, Blake Jenner, Hayden Szeto, and Kyra Sedgwick join forces with Steinfeld as their co-stars.

Pineapple Express

Leaving Netflix: Aug. 31

It won’t be shocking news to anyone, but “Pineapple Express” is among my all-time favorite films. I must confess there’s something peculiar about me, but you’re quickly running out of time to catch the hilarious comedy co-produced by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg on Netflix before it disappears at the end of this month.

As a gamer, I’d say: “In the shoes of Dale Denton, a subpoena server by trade, I stumble upon a chilling scene – a cop committing a murder. This unwanted encounter thrusts me and my dealer, Sal, into the heart of a California-wide marijuana distribution conflict. We’re now on the run, trying to stay one step ahead in this high-stakes game.”

Spider-Man

Leaving Netflix: Aug. 31

The movie “Spider-Man,” featuring Tobey Maguire and directed by Sam Raimi, will no longer be available on Netflix as of the end of this month. If you wish to watch Peter Parker battle the Green Goblin to save New York City, you should do so before Aug. 31, because that’s when it leaves Netflix.

Unfortunately, Spider-Man fans have even more to be disappointed about. Not only is Spider-Man departing from Netflix, but the entire collection of Spider-Man movies will be gone on Aug. 31 too. That includes Spider-Man 2 and Spider-Man 3, as well as the films featuring Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, such as The Amazing Spider-Man and The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

In September, only one “Spider-Man” film will remain on Netflix: “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.” It’s fantastic news, but it’s unfortunate that the departure of all these “Spider-Man” movies starts so quickly.

Burn After Reading

Leaving Netflix: Aug. 31

If you’re a devotee of the Coen Brothers’ cinematic works, there’s some disheartening news to share – “Burn After Reading” will no longer be available on Netflix starting August 31st. Currently, it appears that “Burn After Reading” is the sole Coen Brothers film offered on Netflix (excluding “The Ballad of Buster Scruggs”, which is a Netflix original production).

The movie “Burn After Reading,” which hit theaters in 2008, was created by the Coen brothers and features a star-studded cast including George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Tilda Swinton, Frances McDormand, John Malkovich, and Richard Jenkins. This comedy follows two gym employees who stumble upon what they believe are classified CIA documents. In their attempt to capitalize on the situation, things don’t exactly go as planned. You’ll have to watch it to find out!

Beverly Hills Cop

Leaving Netflix: Sept. 3

The “Beverly Hills Cop” series on Netflix is about to disappear on September 3rd! Since we’re almost in September, I think it’s a good idea to add it to your watchlist right away if you haven’t already!

The movie titled “Beverly Hills Cop” features the character Axel Foley, portrayed by Eddie Murphy, who is on a mission to unravel a murder mystery in the upscale city of Beverly Hills. In July 2024, Netflix debuted the fourth installment of the series, called “Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F.” As of now, you can stream all four “Beverly Hills Cop” films on Netflix, but this opportunity won’t last forever.

Beverly Hills Cop II is leaving Netflix on Sept. 3, as well.

Hey there, fellow movie buffs! As someone who’s been through countless streaming services and their ever-changing libraries, I can confidently say that this list of good movies leaving Netflix soon is not to be missed! With only a week left, it’s time to prioritize your viewing schedule and make the most of these last days. Trust me, you don’t want to miss out on these gems before they vanish into the streaming abyss!
