5 Things we hope to see in Mermicorno: Starfall season 2

Stepping into the realm of kids’ animated series comes “Mermicorno: Starfall“, a captivating show derived from the vibrant and distinctive characters conceived by Simone Legno, the creative mind behind tokidoki. The first season unfolds across 13 episodes, following Mermicorno Astra who plummets into the ocean during an extraordinary starfall occurrence.

In my perspective as a film critic, I must say that the story revolves around a character named Astra, who stumbles upon a woman and an infant she later names Pearl Girl, within the grandeur of Royal Mother Pearl’s palace. However, the narrative takes a dramatic turn when Pearl Girl mysteriously disappears. With unwavering determination, our protagonist, Astra, steps forward to embark on a quest to find her.

On my journey, I encounter fellow Mermicornos, much like myself, who are likewise unaware of our past before the starfall. With each new episode, our tale unfolds further, providing glimpses into the fascinating world of Mermicornos as we tackle challenges, grasp life’s lessons, and mingle with intriguing marine creatures.

After wrapping up the enthralling first season of Mermicorno: Starfall, it’s evident that this captivating tale is far from concluding. As Legno tantalizingly sets the stage for more adventures, I can’t help but share my top five wishes for the upcoming second season.

Here are the elements I eagerly anticipate in Mermicorno: Starfall Season 2:

1. Further exploration of the enigmatic underwater world and its diverse inhabitants.
2. Deepening relationships between Mermicorno, her friends, and potential new allies.
3. The unveiling of the true origins of Mermicorno’s star-like abilities.
4. Challenging conflicts that test the limits of Mermicorno’s powers and resolve.
5. A tantalizing glimpse into the future, hinting at even greater mysteries to be uncovered.

1. Kameko’s dad

Although primarily tasked with rescuing Pearl Girl from the clutches of Ika Inkblot, the Mermicornos simultaneously sought out Kameko’s long-lost father. Much like their mission, the details surrounding Kameko and her family are equally shrouded in mystery.

On a storm-ridden night, she was standing on a pier, anxiously waiting for her father to return home. In the tumultuous water, she thought she saw him, but it turned out to be a mistaken sighting. Impulsively, she dove in, and if not for Astra’s swift intervention, she would have been ensnared by Sawtooth. Instead, Astra rescued her, miraculously transforming the girl into a Mermicorno – a hybrid of human and mermaid.

Despite being quite unique among her Mermicorno companions, Kameko seamlessly fits into the group, often providing assistance and humor. In the final episode of season 1, it’s unveiled that Ika Inkblot is privy to the fact that Kameko’s father is a turtle.

However, we’re still unaware of his location. Here’s hoping Kameko finds her father soon, which might also give her insights into her own background and family history.

We don’t know where he is at present. May Kameko eventually track down her father, a journey that could possibly enlighten her about herself and her ancestry.

2. More Mermicornos

It’s undeniable that our Mermicorno gang is strong, with every character boasting unique and vibrant personalities ranging from loyal to intelligent, self-assured, and theatrical. However, we can’t help but wonder if there might be additional Mermicornos out there and where they could possibly be found in the vast ocean.

During the great starfall, our beloved Mermicorns suffered memory loss, yet throughout the course of the season, fragments of their past began to resurface. Despite the belief that Mermicorns haven’t been spotted for centuries, we can’t help but ponder how many might still be alive today.

Will it fall upon Astra to locate them? Could it be that a greater number of Mermicorns will be the ones who rescue the ocean from the threat posed by Dark Pearl Girl and Ika Inkblot?

3. Sawtooth switching sides

Apart from Ika Inkblot, another persistent adversary for our Mermicornos was Ika’s sidekick, the Mermishark named Sawtooth. This character served both as a source of humor and as an accomplice to Ika. Despite his comedic role, Sawtooth wasn’t the most intelligent marine creature in the ocean, frequently teaming up with two Squidians to carry out Ika’s commands.

Besides Ika Inkblot, we also had to deal with Ika’s helper, a fish named Sawtooth who was a Mermishark. He often appeared for laughs but wasn’t very smart, usually working with two Squidians to follow Ika’s orders.

Or: Alongside Ika Inkblot, we encountered another enemy – Ika’s sidekick, Sawtooth the Mermishark. Known for his comic relief, Sawtooth wasn’t the sharpest fish in the sea and often teamed up with two Squidians to follow Ika’s instructions.

But things might take an unexpected turn when a significant disclosure occurs during the season 1 finale. As Astra’s scheme unravels, causing Pearl Girl to transform into Dark Pearl, Sawtooth is reminded of a past memory in which he collaborated with Astra and other Mermicornos at work.

This surprising disclosure leaves Sawtooth feeling uneasy, causing him to doubt all that he knew. Given Ika’s lack of respect for Sawtooth and her previous bond with the Mermicornos, it seems likely that he will side with our protagonists.

4. Pearl Girl’s rescue

It can’t be argued that the final episode of “Mermicorno: Starfall” was exceptionally thrilling and disorderly, a trait not commonly found in children’s programming. Yet, this is just one of the numerous advantages this show offers.

Although primarily designed for kids and families, the program carries an air of maturity, managing to avoid both unnecessary complexity and oversimplification.

No matter what, the effort to rescue Pearl Girl ends unsuccessful, giving Dark Pearl full control over the ocean. This turn of events is likely to impact Astra the hardest from the whole team, making it crucial for the Mermicornos to prevail in season 2.

5. Royal Mother Pearl and Barb

To wrap things up, let’s see how Mother Royal Pearl and Barb handle the aftermath of Dark Pearl’s appearance. Throughout the season, they collaborated to discover why certain coastal settlements were under attack and offered assistance to the residents. They also managed to prevent the last star from falling during the starfall. However, we’re eager to find out what additional tasks will come their way now that the entire ocean is threatened. Will they join forces with other kingdoms? And just how many kingdoms are there in the ocean?
