As a die-hard Outlander fan and a time-traveling gamer like Claire Fraser herself, I can’t help but reflect on the top five unforgettable moments from season 7, episode 11. Here they are!
In episode 11 of Outlander‘s seventh season, the story continued following John’s somewhat unromantic proposal. To safeguard Claire, they both found themselves needing to marry. Though reluctant, Claire ultimately had to agree due to the necessity of the situation. She understood it was their only viable option.
Absolutely, there was a possibility that she could’ve returned to her original time. That scenario was explored in the episode, and it’s one of the most impactful scenes for the character of Claire. For the actress Caitriona Balfe, this scene is particularly noteworthy as it allows her to portray Claire’s profound sorrow. However, I wouldn’t categorize this grief as a “highlight” or “top moment.” It’s more about the depth and emotion she brings to the role in this specific instance.
Typically, I pick out three top moments, but this episode had so much focus on Claire that I found myself unable to narrow it down to just three. Instead, I’ve got five special instances for you.
Claire’s discussion with Lord John Grey in bed
After the significant event the previous morning, Claire and Lord John Grey found themselves navigating an awkward situation. What I appreciate about John is that he didn’t attempt to slip away discreetly. Instead, they engaged in a conversation, addressing the matters at hand.
Claire inquires about the romantic history of John, who is now her spouse. It’s not out of nosiness, but rather a desire to understand better the man with whom she has chosen to share her life. This vulnerable exchange might help them both feel a bit more connected. It demonstrates that Claire genuinely cares for John, as their marriage isn’t just about survival—it’s about cherishing each other and their bond.
Questioning John’s hypocrisy
After John denies Henry and Mercy’s marriage request, Claire decides to confront John about his actions. Typically, I find Claire’s modern views intrusive when applied to 18th-century individuals, but this instance is exceptional. She isn’t challenging John for adhering to the norms of his era; instead, she’s accusing him of hypocrisy.
In essence, John has accomplished actions that he claims Henry isn’t capable of. For instance, John wed the widow of a rebel, and he engages in clandestine activities. Given his position within the family, these actions are more acceptable to him. However, this doesn’t make them morally correct. Claire understands when it’s best to cease debating, and she has no personal experience with an illicit love affair, so she can’t comment on that matter.
Not going back to the future in Outlander
Young Ian approaches Claire, expressing his longing for Jamie and asking about why Claire didn’t return through the stones herself. I appreciate that Ian feels at ease to confide in Claire, but he also poses a question that many of us have pondered.
Claire has pondered upon it. Her era seems to be passing. Instead, she intends to contribute towards shaping the nation that will be Brianna’s future home. That is her new focus.
Playing the part of John’s wife
Lord John Grey communicated to Claire that there are roles they need to fulfill. Though their marriage appears false within their private sphere, it must appear genuine to the public eye. Regrettably, they haven’t been successful in maintaining this deception from the start. At first, Claire dislikes this proposition and refuses to don John’s ring or attend the event he has arranged.
Claire undergoes a transformation, indeed. She realizes that it’s crucial for her to act in the best interest of John at this juncture. John bravely married her to shield her, and now she assumes the role of Lady John Grey. When she fulfills this duty, she does so gracefully, demonstrating her love and care for John.
Seeing Jamie again in Outlander season 7, episode 11
Was it just me, or did everyone else experience a sense of relaxation when Claire spotted Jamie in the final scene? It was evident that her entire being let out a sigh of relief as her dreams were fulfilled – Jamie indeed survived.
In a heartwarming instant, Claire and Jamie reunite, fully aware that their time together is limited. Yet, they eagerly seize the moments they have. Claire refuses to let go of her husband, for she can’t bear the thought of losing him once more.
Regrettably, this gathering doesn’t last long due to some British soldiers. Fortunately, Jamie is once again on the same continent!
