3 Outlander characters I'd love to have seen stick around longer

As a passionate Outlander fan with countless hours invested in following the intricate tapestry of this captivating series, I find myself always yearning for more – and that includes more screen time for some of my favorite characters who were tragically underutilized or prematurely departed.

Among the Outlander characters, some we found hard to let go, while others had the potential to become intriguing antagonists. A few characters didn’t stay long enough to fully leave their mark on the narrative as they deserved.

Among the enthusiasts of the series Outlander, there’s a wide variety of views on characters that could have benefited from extended screen time. Here are three characters I personally believe deserved more attention.

Outlander Season 1’s Lieutenant Jeremy Foster

As a gamer, I was thrilled when Lieutenant Jeremy Foster made his debut in Season 1’s episode “Rent.” His subsequent appearance in “Prestonpans” left me eagerly anticipating more of his presence. Unfortunately, his untimely demise in that episode cut his story short, and I couldn’t help but wish for another chance to see him return between those episodes.

Foster was a good man. He believed that Claire was being harassed and kept prisoner by the MacKenzie men. He just wanted to make sure she was safe and unharmed. He was so different to many of the other military men we’d met in the series, so it would have been nice to continue that.

Was it significant for the storyline? No, which is why he was excluded. However, I could have enjoyed seeing more of him in the narrative!

Outlander Season 2’s Master Raymond

Without a shadow of a doubt, Master Raymond’s tale has yet to be fully revealed. The books offer a glimpse into this mystery, albeit a subtle one. Suggestions of additional layers to his story are hinted at, as his name is briefly mentioned, though he himself remains unseen. Furthermore, a brief narrative about him sheds light on aspects of his past, providing us with a deeper understanding of the enigmatic character.

It’d be wonderful if we could encounter Master Raymond once more. He was instrumental in saving Claire’s life, and I can only imagine the scene where he reappears to guide her when she discovers her powers. Their bond was instantaneous, with Master Raymond recognizing Claire’s aura that sparked their connection.

Outlander Season 3’s Yi Tien Cho/Mr. Willoughby

I was delighted to see that Yi Tien Cho’s character deviated significantly from the stereotype in the “Voyager” book, and the series did a commendable job of providing him with a more favorable conclusion. He even had the opportunity to depart with Margaret, embarking on a journey towards a more tranquil and joyful existence.

As a dedicated gamer, I can’t help but wonder if introducing Yi Tien Cho again could be an option. In the captivating world of Outlander, Yi Tien Cho was unwaveringly loyal to Jamie and held Claire in high esteem (and vice versa). Now, I’m aware that the show does have its challenges when it comes to diversity, especially set in North Carolina. However, bringing back Yi Tien Cho could certainly contribute positively to that aspect.
