As a die-hard fan of Outlander, I must say that this week’s episode was nothing short of mesmerizing! Roger and Buck’s journey in 1739 has been an intriguing twist to the storyline, and it’s been fascinating to witness Roger’s evolution.
In the eleventh episode of Outlander’s seventh season, it was just Roger and Buck embarking on an exciting journey all by themselves. Let’s delve into some standout moments for Roger in this particular episode.
After discovering that Jerry MacKenzie resided in a past era, Roger was compelled to venture out and locate him. Somehow, Jerry found himself in 1739, and the stones had transported Roger and Buck here. It seems as though Jemmy is with his grandfather. That’s the conclusion these two gentlemen have to draw, at least for now.
In this episode, despite the lack of intense activity, Roger experienced some captivating and impactful instances. Here are my top three favorites.
Roger sharing what he remembers of his father
Roger acknowledges that he never personally knew his father. He’s only familiar with events surrounding him from stories passed down. His suspicion has always been that there was something enigmatic about his father’s disappearance. It seems as though the possibility that Jerry might have traveled through time, especially after learning about time travel, has crossed his mind.
To be honest, his father hasn’t occupied much space in his thoughts recently. Unlike some novels where characters occasionally ponder over their fathers, he’s got a lead on meeting his dad now and he’s eager to seize the opportunity!
Buying the gem and more information
To return to 1980, Roger and Buck require gems as they pass through the stone. It’s heartwarming that Buck prioritizes ensuring Roger’s safe return. He’s not overly concerned about his past self. What matters most to him is getting both Roger and Jemmy back to where they belong. Now, let’s focus on Roger again…
Roger knows that he needs to get back, so he buys a gem. This isn’t for him or Jemmy, though. It’s for his dad. He wants to get his dad back to the 1940s. He needs to change this history. If only he knew what was to come!
Trying to play nice for information
Following their purchase of information from the tinker, Roger and Buck resume their search for Jerry. This journey eventually takes them to a farmer who appears to possess Jerry’s coat. Eager for answers, Roger finds himself in a situation where quick resolution isn’t feasible. He understands the importance of maintaining good relations instead.
I’m really enjoying the way Roger has adapted to his era, and it’s been great to have Buck around during that process. He occasionally seeks Buck’s advice when navigating tricky situations. I’d be thrilled to witness more collaborations between them in the future.
