As a seasoned gamer and Netflix aficionado with a soft spot for holiday-themed movies, I must say that December 2024 looks promising on the streaming platform. The diversity of offerings caters to various tastes, from family-friendly animated flicks to biblical dramas and thrillers.
Every weekend, you can count on finding fresh Netflix original movies among the ongoing stream of popular titles available for viewing on Netflix. Even after an action-packed November filled with four new original Christmas rom-coms and other blockbuster films, Netflix promises to end 2024 with a dramatic flair in December 2024.
Kicking off the new month, I can’t wait to dive into Netflix’s newest family-friendly animated holiday movie, which I believe is destined to hold a top spot in my viewing list throughout the month. The festive feeling continues with a gripping holiday-themed thriller that will have me on the edge of my seat, as well as a captivating biblical drama centered around Mary’s journey. There’s a wealth of movies to keep every viewer like myself entertained!

The movie follows Mary’s loneliness after the miraculous conception and birth of Jesus, compelling her to flee with her newborn and Joseph to avoid those seeking to harm Jesus. Since “Mary” may not appeal to everyone’s taste, feel free to pass if it doesn’t seem interesting to you.
Maria
Don’t miss it! There are several compelling reasons to catch “Maria” when it debuts on Netflix on Dec. 11. To start with, it’s the newest biopic from director Pablo Larraín, who is known for his Oscar-nominated films like “Jackie,” starring Natalie Portman, and “Spencer,” featuring Kristen Stewart. Additionally, Angelina Jolie returns to a memorable leading role as a renowned opera singer, and her performance has generated buzz for an Academy Award. Given the director and Jolie’s involvement, this film is certainly one you won’t want to pass up!

Hey there! You know how everyone always talks about Christmas movies being all about magic, joy, and cheer? Well, I’m here to argue that a Christmas thriller can be just as captivating! Case in point: the upcoming Netflix movie, Carry-On, set in an airport on a chilly Christmas Eve. An ordinary TSA agent finds himself in an extraordinary situation as he races against time to prevent a catastrophic attack from happening. Starring Taron Egerton, Jason Bateman, Logan Marshall-Green, Sofia Carson, and Danielle Deadwyler, this movie is set to become the next big thriller sensation on Netflix when it premieres on Dec. 13.
The Six Triple Eight
Instead of “Skip!”, consider rephrasing as: “Perhaps not for everyone, especially during the holiday season, ‘The Six Triple Eight’ is a captivating war movie. Kerry Washington, in her role as a major in the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion during World War II, delivers an outstanding performance in this film directed by Tyler Perry. However, with so many heartwarming Christmas movies available on Dec. 20, you might opt for one of those instead.
