Occasionally, life pushes you towards cranking up the volume on heavy metal music and embracing its intense emotions wholeheartedly. It can be liberating, thrilling, yet a bit unnerving as well.
Music truly shines in its ability to uplift us, particularly during times of anxiety. A powerful tune or a well-composed melody can have a soothing effect, helping us find a sense of calmness. The more intense and skillfully crafted the piece, the greater the likelihood of finding relaxation.
The following three tunes could become favorites in your playlist for the foreseeable future. Two of them are from groups you’re probably familiar with, while the third is definitely worth checking out – it’s a great starting point for exploring their impressive body of work.
New metal songs that should be part of your rotation this week
Der Weg Einer Freheit – “Eos”
The introductory track for their upcoming album should have this quality. Their sixth album, “Innern,” is set to release in September, and it promises to be worth the anticipation if the remaining tracks are as impressive as this one. However, there’s a slight hint that Sleep Token’s more ethereal influences might be seeping into their metal genre. Let’s cross our fingers and hope it doesn’t happen.
This German band tends to stay true to their origins, yet their orchestral arrangement presents a unique twist. The melody carries an air of impending doom, which aligns nicely following the heavy reverb introduction.
In This Moment – “Heretic” (ft. Kim Dracula)
For those who’ve attended In This Moment concerts, you’re aware that the performances are heavily influenced by theatricality. Singer Maria Brink has a knack for eliciting audience enthusiasm with a charm reminiscent of a white witch, and she truly is enchanting. However, it should be noted that the band’s songs don’t all share the same mood.
As a fellow gamer, I can tell you that the song “Heretic” doesn’t disappoint. Kim Dracula gives it an edge with her angsty vibe, making it one of the loudest In This Moment tracks in a while. Yet, from its powerful bassline to the thought-provoking lyrics, it’s simply brilliant.
Nine Inch Nails – “As Alive As You Need Me To Be”
Trent Reznor has often drawn inspiration from various sources, and Depeche Mode is one of those influences. You can sense a touch of Dave Gahan and Martin Gore in his work, yet it’s clear this is a Nine Inch Nails track. Remarkably, Reznor and Atticus Finch have consistently created music that is uniquely their own.
As a passionate fan, I can’t help but notice the potent Tron-inspired undertones this track exudes, given that it’s Nine Inch Nails’ first single in five years, set to feature in the upcoming chapter of the Tron saga, “Tron: Ares”. Trent Reznor and Atticus Finch have graced us with their musical talents for the soundtrack, making me wonder if there are more singles yet to be unveiled from this intriguing film.
