As a die-hard Outlander fan who’s been following the series since its inception, I must say that season 7, episode 12 was nothing short of heart-wrenching. The tension between Jamie and Lord John Grey reached new heights, culminating in a moment of uncontrollable rage from our beloved Highlander.
In the twelfth episode of Outlander’s seventh season, there was no delay for Jamie Fraser as he immersed himself in the unfolding events. Let’s take a stroll down memory lane and revisit some of his most memorable moments.
In this episode, it was tough to bear witness. The bond between John and Jamie appears severely strained. What might have seemed distressing when they clashed during the conflict, now escalates to an alarming point as Jamie comes close to taking John’s life out of uncontrolled anger.
It’s not unpredictable that Jamie became extremely upset due to John revealing everything so thoughtlessly and in such a harsh manner that was clearly painful. Given Jamie’s historical temperament as a man known for his violence, it is understandable why he reacted in the way he did. However, even though this wasn’t one of his finest moments, Jamie has had some notable ones during the episode.
Not initially believing Lord John Grey
I’ll begin by referring to a moment just prior to Lord John Grey reveals all to Jamie in the 12th episode of Outlander season 7. Initially, Jamie found it hard to believe the man. There was an expression on his face that suggested amusement, as if he believed John was attempting to ease Jamie’s guilt over past events. It seemed almost like a jest, since Jamie is well aware of Lord John Grey’s sexual orientation.
In that moment, as Jamie began to trust John’s statements, it was evident that his attitude shifted. Initially, he might have been able to handle the truth, but it was the way John revealed their intended target at that precise instant that pushed Jamie beyond his limits.
A reunion with George Washington
Following the delivery of letters to Daniel Morgan, Jamie managed to secure a meeting with a significant figure from the Revolutionary Army. To his surprise, he stood face-to-face with none other than George Washington.
This instance was truly special, and it was evident that Jamie felt both proud and humbled during this period. In fact, he readily agreed when presented with the opportunity to command a battalion. Yet, what stood out most to me was the reminder of their prior encounter. Jamie recognized the significant role George Washington would eventually play, while Washington remained oblivious to Jamie’s identity at the time. They found common ground in discussing the “awful play,” which I found quite charming. It would have added depth to the story if Claire’s surgical skills were mentioned as well.
Reuniting with Claire in Outlander
Indeed, our anticipation was high as we longed for Jamie and Claire’s reunion. We craved the intense romance they shared, and it was beautifully portrayed in the climax. Yet, their reunion wasn’t without a significant conversation. Jamie felt betrayed by Claire and John’s intimacy, while Claire was dismayed by what she perceived as Jamie’s hypocrisy in allowing relationships outside their bond.
Ultimately, they reached a mutual agreement. It was essential for them to discuss everything openly, making their conversation at the table even more impactful and personal.
