Lately, developers from Firaxis Games have been disclosing they’ve lost their jobs as it appears 2K is undergoing a wave of terminations. These developers primarily worked on the Civilization 7 and Marvel’s Midnight Suns projects at Firaxis. However, while 2K has acknowledged the layoffs, it has not specified the exact number of employees affected.
Information about the job cuts at 2K emerged through various posts by former employees on social media. For instance, Emma Kidwell, the writer for Civilization 7 and Marvel’s Midnight Suns, announced her termination from Firaxis on Bluesky. Similarly, other employees such as Senior Quality Assurance Tester Logan Blackwood and Lead Character Artist Matthew Davis also disclosed their dismissals from the company through social media posts.

In response to multiple senior developers announcing their layoffs, 2K chose to address the situation through a company representative.
Not much more was discussed about the number of people let go or the affected departments. However, since its exciting debut in February, Civilization 7 has been facing challenges. It’s maintained a Mixed rating on Steam for some time now, and it doesn’t appear that things are improving.
It’s still not clear what 2K refers to when they mention “optimizing… for adaptability, collaboration, and creativity.” However, it appears that the immediate result could be layoffs of employees.
