28 Years Later Zombie Revealed Not to Be Cillian Murphy

As a seasoned gamer and movie enthusiast with a soft spot for zombie apocalypse narratives, I must say I was taken aback by the news that the Cillian Murphy-like zombie in the 28 Years Later trailer isn’t actually our beloved Jim from the original 28 Days Later.

Spectators were taken aback when they spotted a character resembling Cillian Murphy in the latest teaser for “28 Years Later,” yet a person has emerged stating that the supposed zombie isn’t truly Murphy himself.

Who is the zombie that looks like Cillian Murphy?

In an interview with The Guardian, art dealer Angus Neill revealed that he, not Murphy, played the gaunt zombie seen in the trailer for the upcoming film. This contradicts the fact that Murphy was the one who portrayed the character in the original 28 Days Later from 2002.

Neill mentioned that Danny had been considering me for the part all along,” he shared. “After meeting up and connecting well, I decided to join in. It’s amazing how he can captivate you on set, and working alongside him made the filming process incredibly immersive.

Spectators swiftly speculated that the undead character resembled Jim from 28 Days Later, portrayed by Murphy. Although it was clarified that the zombie wasn’t actually Murphy, the actor has previously expressed interest in revisiting the franchise and there have been whispers suggesting his potential return, possibly in a different form.

28 Years After is headlined by Jodie Comer (The Bikeriders), Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Kraven the Hunter), Ralph Fiennes (Conclave), Jack O’Connell (Ferrari), Erin Kellyman (Solo: A Star Wars Story), and Edvin Ryding (Young Royals). It is possible that Murphy will return as Jim, a character he played in 28 Days Later, though the extent of his role in the film has not yet been specified.

Boyle’s upcoming sequel marks the beginning of a fresh trilogy. This film, along with the second installment, was simultaneously filmed, with Nia DaCosta (from Candyman and The Marvels) directing the latter. As of now, a release date for that movie is still undisclosed.

28 Years Later will be released in United States theaters on June 20, 2025, by Sony Pictures.
