28 Years Later, originally helmed by Danny Boyle and penned by Alex Garland of Civil War fame, is set to bring back my beloved character in a way that’s both unexpected and growth-inducing, as per the words of Sony Pictures chairman. I can hardly wait to see what transpires! The talented team behind this project includes Garland, Boyle, Andrew Macdonald, Peter Rice, and Bernie Bellew as producers, with me, the fan, excited to also see my favorite actor serving as an executive producer. Post the success of 28 Years Later, a sequel titled The Bone Temple will be directed by the brilliant Nia DaCosta from another screenplay penned by Alex Garland. This is truly exciting news for fans like me!
In simple terms, the official synopsis for the movie 28 Years Later states that it’s nearly three decades after a deadly virus known as the rage virus was unleashed from a research lab. The world remains under strict quarantine. Some of the survivors have managed to eke out an existence amidst the infected. One group lives on a small island, connected to the mainland by a single fortified bridge. When one member leaves the island and ventures into the heart of the mainland, he uncovers hidden truths, marvels, and terrors that have transformed not only the infected but also other survivors.
