As a seasoned gamer with a soft spot for music and reality shows, let me tell you, I’m beyond excited about the upcoming Netflix series, Pop Star Academy: KATSEYE. With my fingers permanently stuck to the fast-forward button on every reality show since American Idol, and being an avid follower of the music industry (especially K-pop), this docuseries is like a dream come true.
If you enjoy watching music documentaries, be sure to mark your calendars for August 21st as the new docuseries titled Pop Star Academy: KATSEYE will be available on Netflix. This highly anticipated original series promises plenty of intriguing details, so stay tuned for more information!
If you frequently spend time online or have an affinity for K-pop, it’s likely that you’ve come across the rising girl group, KATSEYE. Intriguingly, Netflix has collaborated with HYBE, Interscope Films, and Boardwalk Pictures to produce a documentary series revealing the process of their formation.
To start off, let me clarify that KATSEYE isn’t a Korean pop (K-pop) band. Contrarily, they are an American girl group managed by South Korean label HYBE, the same company behind various K-pop acts like BTS, New Jeans, and Le Sserafim, among others. Furthermore, they are also signed to major US record label Geffen Records.
As a devoted admirer, I’m thrilled to share that the acclaimed filmmaker Nadia Hallgren, renowned for her work on Netflix’s heartfelt documentary Becoming, steps into the director’s chair for Pop Star Academy: KATSEYE. This exciting journey follows 20 aspiring pop stars hailing from various corners of the globe as they embark on a distinctive K-pop training and growth program. Their ultimate goal? Landing a place in HYBE and Geffen Records’ groundbreaking first global girl group, none other than KATSEYE.
Approximately 120,000 individuals from various parts of the globe tried out for The Debut: Dream Academy, a reality talent competition series. Out of these participants, just 20 were selected to compete. Through this process, six exceptional girls emerged as the finalists and formed the group. These six talented individuals are Daniela Avanzini, Manon Bannerman, Lara Raj, Megan Skiendiel, Sophia Laforteza, and Yoonchae Jeong.
The Netflix documentary not only explores the creation of KATSEYE, but it additionally delves into the group’s preparations for their first EP, entitled “SIS (Soft Is Strong), scheduled for release on Aug. 16, 2024.” In June 2024, the debut single from KATSEYE, “Debut,” was released, with a second single, “Touch,” following in July. Videos for both songs are also available to watch online. Here are the links below.
Don’t forget to jot down the date and adjust your alarm, as Pop Star Academy: KATSEYE will debut on Netflix at 12:00 a.m. Pacific Time (PT) / 3:00 a.m. Eastern Time (ET) on Aug. 21!
