2 Fan-Favorite Wicked Actors Won’t Join Sequel’s Cast

Fans are eagerly anticipating the continuation of Jon M. Chu’s adaptation of the popular Broadway show “Wicked 2,” but unfortunately, two beloved cast members, Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel, who played Glinda the Good Witch and the Wicked Witch respectively in the original production, will not reprise their roles in the forthcoming film. Despite making a special appearance in the 2024 big-screen version of “Wicked,” they won’t be returning for the sequel’s movie adaptation.

Don’t expect Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel to join Wicked 2’s cast

During a recent interview on the red carpet at the 78th Annual Tony Awards, Chenoweth shared with ExtraTV that she has no intentions of reprising her role in Wicked: For Good. Since Idina Menzel also won’t be part of the cast for Wicked 2, the seasoned actress mentioned that both she and Menzel are content with stepping away from the Wicked franchise.

Speaking about the possibility of them joining the cast for Wicked 2, Kristin Chenoweth mentioned, “We won’t be part of it. However, Idina and I are quite content with that decision. It’s their time to shine now. We had our chance, and we were deeply honored they let us be a part of it, but it’s their turn in the spotlight.

Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel left indelible marks on pop culture lore by playing Glinda and Elphaba in the original Wicked musical. They reprised their roles for the 2024 movie adaptation of Wicked, with Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo headlining as the leading characters. In the film, Chenoweth and Menzel made a memorable appearance following the introduction of Grande and Erivo’s characters in Emerald City, delivering an enchanting performance.

In essence, these characters’ looks were more like hidden clues (easter eggs) in the film, and didn’t contribute to its storyline. That’s why you won’t find them listed among the cast for Wicked 2.

Wicked: For Good is currently on track to premiere in theaters on November 21, 2025.
