As someone who’s been through several election nights, I can tell you that having a good show to distract myself has always been a lifesaver. And with the 2024 elections just around the corner, I thought it would be helpful to share my top picks for shows to watch on this momentous occasion.
On Tuesday, 5th November, American citizens exercised their right to vote for the upcoming U.S. president. After affixing their “I Voted” badges to their clothes with a sense of pride, the genuine competition commences. This is an experience we’re familiar with every four years: The tension as we watch the results unravel and anticipate who will emerge victorious.
Perhaps instead of spending the entire evening glued to news broadcasts or constantly refreshing your social media for updates, you might also enjoy taking care of yourself by immersing in a soothing or exhilarating Netflix series as you wait for the final outcomes.
If you’re looking for some counter-programming for election night 2024, we’re sharing two Netflix shows you should definitely binge-watch to calm your nerves and one currently popular show that probably isn’t the best choice for this particular occasion. Let’s get started!
Nobody Wants This
I’ve been totally hooked on “Nobody Wants This” since it debuted on September 26! This show has consistently ranked among the top 10 most-watched series on Netflix, earning an early renewal for a second season. Starring Kristen Bell and Adam Brody, the series follows their unlikely romance as Joanne and Noah – a pair who can’t help but feel drawn to each other despite cultural differences and the disapproval of their families. I can’t wait to see what happens next!
In simple terms, “Nobody Wants This” was undeniably the most enjoyable new show of 2024. The electric chemistry between Bell and Brody in each episode has been a source of uncontainable joy. If you haven’t caught up with its 10-episode first season, now is the ideal moment to do so. For those who have already watched, a second viewing could serve as an excellent distraction from the ongoing election.
The Diplomat
By all means, I strongly advise against dismissing this series: “The Diplomat” isn’t a show to be ignored. It’s far from it! Currently, it stands out as the most captivating political drama on Netflix. From its compelling narrative to exceptional acting performances, it’s a definite must-see, even for those who typically steer clear of political television shows. If you haven’t experienced Keri Russell in her role as Ambassador Kate Wyler yet, you’re missing out!
Instead of diving into political drama on TV during election night when you might prefer a break from politics, it wouldn’t be the best idea to start watching Netflix’s new season 2 of The Diplomat, which premiered on Halloween, leaving only a few days before the election. If you haven’t caught up yet, consider adding The Diplomat to your watch list and saving your binge for next week instead.
Outer Banks
Pay attention! Where would you go for endless fun? The answer is none other than the Outer Banks! Although it might not be your typical comforting place, with its thrilling, heart-stopping scenes and life-or-death situations, it’s as escapist as television gets. And guess what? The second part of season 4 will be available in just two days following the election day. It’s high time to get caught up before that!
The fourth season of “Outer Banks” premiered in two segments, starting in October, and it has featured some of the series’ most jaw-dropping plot developments. The bombshell revealed at the end of part 1 sets the stage for the high-speed action in part 2, as the Pogues persist in their quest for Blackbeard’s treasure. Don’t miss out on the penultimate adventure before the next episodes air on November 7th.
