As a long-time resident of Philadelphia, I’ve seen more than my fair share of emergencies and chaos – from the infamous sports riots to the occasional horse-drawn carriage accident. So, when I heard about the possibility of a 911 show set right here in the City of Brotherly Love, I couldn’t help but get excited.
It’s possible that 911 is contemplating a fresh spin-off, and there are numerous cities that would make excellent settings for the series!
911 has been thriving since moving from Fox to ABC in the past year. Regrettably, 911: Lone Star is getting canceled after five seasons. Yet, this isn’t the last we’ve heard of the franchise as its producer Ryan Murphy has revealed plans for another spinoff, sharing with Variety that he has ideas in store.
[Series co-creator] Tim Minear and I are working on a new spinoff that we’re actually writing, and that we hope to get on the air next fall. We’re going to launch a new show in a new city that I can’t name, but it’s fun. And 9-1-1 moved to ABC and suddenly became, I think, the biggest show on Thursday night. They obviously have an appetite for that, so we’re going to give them another one that I really love.
To date, no information has been disclosed about the location of the upcoming show. Nevertheless, numerous cities have the potential to deliver the excitement that a 911 series demands, making them ideal city settings. A total of 10 cities stand out as particularly suitable locations for the 911 series and should be seriously considered in the future.
Las Vegas
It seems clear that Las Vegas is a strong choice for such a show due to its extensive television presence, ranging from CSI to numerous series named after the city itself. From its opulent casinos and resorts, an abundance of amusement parks and museums, to the nearby desert, Las Vegas offers plenty of material for a rescue program. Potential disasters could range from tourists encountering unusual accidents to stage magicians’ tricks going awry or even a desert storm. Given its reputation as Sin City, it would not be surprising if this is the location they ultimately choose for a 911 show.
New Orleans
The Gulf Coast would be a fine choice for a 911 show. The location fits as there can be disasters at the local bays and docks using ships, which is fodder for some epic stunts. There are also the sports teams, pro and college, who can inspire some wild stuff. That’s not to mention the vibrant nightlife, the parades, and the supernatural elements can come into play. Imagine an episode of the crew living in fear of the chaos of Mardi Gras and other events. The Big Easy would be an easy choice for a 911 show.
Miami
Florida, particularly Miami, is an obvious choice for a setting in a 911 show. With its abundant ocean-based activities, bustling nightlife, and tourism, it offers a rich backdrop. The beaches, while picturesque, can be dangerous hotspots, providing ample opportunities to delve into various aspects of Miami’s life. Additionally, the potential for episodes involving hurricanes or Spring Break chaos makes Miami an ideal location for a 911 series.
Boston
Perhaps it’s worth considering a shift in the setting for 911, focusing on winter weather scenarios. Winter disasters could bring an added thrill to the series and present unique challenges. Boston might be a suitable city for this change due to its rich history, popular sports teams, and diverse business locations. An engaging episode could depict the chaotic atmosphere at a Red Sox game, while the harsh New England storms offer an opportunity for excitement that other 911 shows don’t have. Winter conditions also present their own set of difficulties.
Atlanta
As a fan, I’ve been noticing how many TV shows are filmed in Atlanta, and it seems like “911” is just capitalizing on that trend by potentially setting their series there. The diverse weather of Atlanta, with its sweltering summers and unexpected winter chills, provides an authentic backdrop for a show like this. Why not even consider bringing characters from the canceled series “The Resident” into the mix for a fun crossover? It’d make production smoother and the lively atmosphere of Atlanta would mesh perfectly with the essence of “911.
Denver
Denver, affectionately known as “The Mile High City,” teems with potential for a TV series. It’s another bustling urban area that experiences severe winter weather, including frequent heavy snowfalls. The city’s altitude adds an extra layer of difficulty to rescue missions, and the nearby mountains present numerous story possibilities. From forest fires to missing hikers and beyond, Colorado is renowned for its breathtaking landscapes as well as perils, which resonate with fans of shows like 911. This setting promises a thrilling high-stakes adventure.
Philadelphia
Philadelphia is currently a bustling city, thanks to shows like “Abbott Elementary” and others. It’s no surprise then that a new show based on 911 operations might also be set there. With its passionate sports fans, harsh winters, and East Coast charm, the City of Brotherly Love offers rich storytelling possibilities. Imagine scenes of historical reenactments gone awry and perhaps even a potential crossover with “Abbott Elementary.” It could make for an exciting blend!
Washington D.C.
This can seem wild, but a 911 series in our nation’s capital can be unique. There’s possible plotlines revolving around protests, parades and maybe our politicians. There’s also a dynamic of the emergency guys having to handle the various federal agencies and enhanced security of D.C. Maybe the workers are hopeful they get a call to the White House and obvious political divisions inside the squad to add to the drama. Politics can be dirty, yet a 911 show in D.C. can make it crazier.
Nashville
Nashville, often referred to as “Music City,” presents a wealth of possibilities for a television series like 911. The backdrop of country music provides ample content with numerous concerts, festivals, and fairs taking place regularly. Moreover, the city’s location along rivers can serve as a setting for significant disasters. Additionally, the vibrant Southern culture and sports teams offer potential storylines. Furthermore, it would be relatively straightforward to secure appearances from genuine country music stars to add an authentic touch and resonate with viewers.
Toronto
It appears increasingly likely that an international adaptation of the series 911 could take place, potentially in Canada. Given Toronto’s extensive history with TV productions, adding another show to the list wouldn’t be surprising. The unique aspect of Canadian winters and wilderness could add a dramatic twist, while exploring differences in emergency response procedures and laws between Canada and the U.S. could offer intriguing storylines. Moreover, Toronto’s welcoming atmosphere makes it an attractive choice for expanding this popular franchise.
911 airs Thursdays at 8/7c on ABC.
